House prices rising at fastest rate since 2005, pandemic-induced boom to endure in 2022, rate rises and cooling measures may temper buyer sentiment.

All three of Knight Frank’s global residential indices, tracking prime and average prices at a city and a national level, are rising at their fastest rate since the global financial crisis.

What’s more, cities are now outpacing their national markets, refuting the argument that the pandemic would lead to the death of the city.

Markets in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the UK as well as Dubai are all key hotspots. Amassed savings, government support measures, record low interest rates, a relaxation of mortgage rules and a reassessment of housing need and lifestyles have pushed demand higher in markets that were already short of stock.
