【World Property Journal】Home Sales Fall in August as Higher Mortgage Rates Weigh on U.S. Buyers

Sales of previously owned U.S. homes fell in August 2026 as elevated mortgage rates continued to restrain buyers, while a growing supply of properties gave prospective purchasers more negotiating leverage.

Existing-home sales declined 2.0% from July 2026 to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 3.98 million, the National Association of Realtors said Thursday. Sales were down 1.2% from August 2025, slipping below the 4 million annualized pace for the first time since June 2025.
